The purpose of this research was to study interaction of economic, social, and political capital in the local election process of a municipality in the eastern Thailand. The qualitative historical research was employed by the use of primary sources, participatory observation, and in-depth
interview. The research findings identified the 2 major political groups of the mayoral candidates : old power structures of the former mayors and sub-district headmen. The interaction between the economic bases and structure of authority in the process of mayoral elections revealed the following results. According to the 3 elections for the mayor, there were no candidates completing with the group of the former mayors in the first and second elections. However in the third election, the group of the previous sub-district headmen became rival candidates of the former mayors. Therefore, the political competition based on the economic, social, and political capital were arisen in the mayoral elections.
