The development of a school curriculum for health and physical education using the traditional Thai Sport “SA BA LOR” for Prathomsuksa 5 Students at Saritdidet School, Zone 1, Chanthaburi Primary Education Service Area Office
The major purposes of this research study were: 1) to evaluate the level of knowledge about and practical skills in the traditional Thai sport “Sa Ba Lor” with Prathomsuksa 5 students in Saritdidet School, Chanthaburi Province; 2) to develop a Health and Physical Education Curriculum using the traditional Thai sport “Sa Ba Lor”; 3) to evaluate students’ attitude toward the new curriculum. The research sample of 40 students was selected by Simple Random Sampling during the second semester of academic year 2015. The research instruments were: a questionnaire about “Sa Ba Lor”, pre-test and post-test achievement tests, and a student evaluation from. The statistics used for analysis were: mean, standard deviation, and t-test.
The results of this research were as follows: 1) the pre-test achievement test about “Sa Ba Lor” had an average score of 15.68 out of 30. The post-test achievement test about “Sa Ba Lor” had an average score of 24.63 out of 30, showing an increase in average score of 8.95, 2) students who studied the newly developed curriculum were able to perform the practical skills at a level of 95.25, 3) the students’ attitude toward the curriculum showed a highly favorable score of 4.47 out of 5.0.
