The purposes of this research were to study the economic development, factors affecting economic changes, and economic revival strategies in the context of globalization for the Bang Sa Kao community. The study utilized an interdisciplinary research methodology in combination with qualitative research approaches to gather data through document analysis and in-depth interviews with sixteen key informants. The research instrument was a set of interviewing guidelines that were developed and examined with theoretical concepts and relevant research. Data triangulation was used to classify and analyze the collected data; moreover, nine experts checked its appropriateness and feasibility in practice.
The research found that the economic development from the past to the present of Bang Sa Kao community could be divided into three economic eras: 1) the subsistence era; 2) the era of subsistence with surplus for sale; and 3) the era of production for sale. There were five factors affecting economic change: 1) public utilities and facilities; 2) agricultural product value; 3) technology; 4) resource competition; and 5) excess benefits. There were five economic revival strategies in the context of globalization for Bang Sa Kao community: 1) generation of income to combat poverty; 2) establishment of a community enterprise that would integrate production groups; 3) promotion of local culture and products; 4) promotion of tourism and economic development; and 5) establishment of a subdistrict sufficiency economy learning center.
