The objectives of this research were to: analyze the development ideology towards the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Plan, critique this ideology, and propose new ideologies for sustainable development in the eastern region. A transdisciplinary research approach based on qualitative research methodology focusing on the critical discourse analysis method was used in this study. Data collection was derived from documentary research and in-depth interviews. The research findings were as follows : 1) the analysis of the development ideology of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Plan found that neoliberalism as an external ideology showed its limited role in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Plan since the authoritarian government controlled the neoliberal ideology. Neoliberalism mainly showed its role in deregulating government regulations, including using market forces to drive development, making exceptions to general laws, and enacting certain new laws to create more flow; on the other hand, neoliberalism was not allowed to affect liberalization and privatization laws; 2) the critique of the ideology by using neoliberalism found that behind the scenes, the project was focused on capitalist development through the legitimacy of capitalism-based reproduction by purposely having capital accumulation and creating economic growth which could be considered as economic inequality when referring to the benefits for only a minority group of elites acting as capitalists in a quadruple system; whereas, negative impacts and disadvantages from the capitalism affected a much larger number of people in the society; and 3) recommendations for new ideologies for sustainable development in the eastern region found that the ideologies and strategies that could subserve the local communities consisted of the ideology of social ecological communitarianism and developmental strategies focusing on community participation, including ecological justice, equality of outcomes, and community empowerment, all of which could be used to develop the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Plan.
